Betty Anderson Obituary

Betty Anderson. Age 92, of Longwood at Oakmont, died peacefully in Pittsburgh, on October 12, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Adda Anderson, her beloved sister, Marjorie (Richard) Pearson of Longwood, and her beloved brother, William (Ruth) Anderson of Penn Hills. Betty is survived by her nephews, Richard A. (Catherine) Anderson, of Naples, FL, Bruce (Margo) Anderson of Bethesda, MD and Alan S. (Marylou) Anderson of Raynham, MA. She was a graduate of Wilkinsburg High School and attended Chatham College and she achieved a Master’s Degree in Mathematics. At Longwood, she participated in many activities, especially with the gift shop where she was involved from its opening. Betty worked at Westinghouse for her career as a Senior Scientist in the Nuclear Division where she developed computer programs used in designing power plants. She was a pioneer at Westinghouse in a very real sense as there were very few women in senior positions when she was first hired. Betty loved to travel the world, having visited destinations including China and Alaska. And she loved her Pittsburgh Steelers! Betty was a member of the South Avenue Methodist Church of Wilkinsburg. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., Oakmont, PA. A memorial service for Betty will be held at Longwood at Oakmont at a date to be determined. Interment will be private in Hebron Cemetery, Penn Hills. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association at 1-800-DIABETES or the South Avenue U.M. Church, 733 South Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15221. Online condolences may be made at: englishfuneralhome.com
