James E. (Jim) Nicholas. 85 of Indiana Twp. passed peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2019. He was born and raised in Oakmont, PA. He served in Pearl Harbor, HI with the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a Cryptographer from 1956 to 1958 and completed his education in Industrial Engineering at the Pennsylvania State University in 1960. He began his career with PPG Industries in Greensburg, PA where he met his beloved wife Dorothy (Dottie) Yencha Nicholas. In 1964, he returned to Pittsburgh to advance his career working in process and technology engineering for Computer Research, PPG Industries, and Rockwell International. In 1969, he joined Arthur Young & Company as a management consultant before establishing himself as Director of Finance and Administration, ultimately retiring from Ernst & Young in 1991. After retirement, he remained active professionally for five more years in various administrative management positions. Jim enjoyed golf and hunting, but mainly enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly at the beach in Topsail Island, NC. He was a member of the Oakmont Country Club from 1972 to 1996 and a longtime member of the Elks Club. Most of all, he enjoyed being the loving husband of Dottie, from whom he was inseparable. Infamous for his sense of humor, he had a gift for recalling and telling jokes from his memory bank with impeccable delivery. He will be immortalized through the retelling of his catalog of jokes and one-liners by his sons and friends. He was very proud of his sons, Jim (Roberta) Nicholas, Michael (Mary) Nicholas, and Sean (Jennifer) Nicholas, and was the loving grandfather of Molly, Wyatt, Michela, James, Stuart and Sydney Nicholas. He was preceded in death by his sister Dolores Farren and brother Jack Nicholas. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 2-6 pm at English Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 378 Maryland Ave, Oakmont, PA 15139.
