Albert “Abby” Mauro Jr. (1943 – 2023)

Albert Mauro Jr., 80, of Natrona Heights, PA, died after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease on Friday, November 11, 2023.

Al was born in Verona, PA to Albert Sr. and Mary Mauro. He attended Verona High School, then majored in education at North Carolina State University where he was a member of the varsity football team. After a brief residence in Florida, Al returned to Pittsburgh to teach and coach football at Wilkinsburg High School. His teaching career continued at Plum School District where he taught both elementary and high school. Al’s teaching career spanned approximately 35 years. In addition to teaching, Al was a successful high school football coach and served a head coach for WPIAL Champion teams at both Plum and Lower Burrell High Schools.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Leonard and Carl Mauro. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Lois Mauro, his two adult children, Jon Mauro and Lindsay Rager, as well as eight grandchildren.

Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 3 – 7 PM at English Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 378 Maryland Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 10 AM in Holy Family Parish (St. Joseph Church) 825 2nd St., Verona, PA 15147. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. A private interment will be held at St. Joseph Verona Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Abby’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html.
