Daniel Reed Dunkle Jr. passed away at the age of 79, surrounded by his family, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Born on December 6, 1944, Daniel was a man rooted in community and family.

A graduate of Oakmont High School in 1963, Daniel furthered his education at Point Park Junior College. He also served in the Navy.  He finished his studies at Fairmont State College, where he received his degree in Psychology.

Daniel's professional life was marked by his dedication to helping others. He worked as a Job Counselor at Human Resource Development Foundation and a child care worker and Chairman of the Board at Genesis Youth Center in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He also served as a police officer in Charleston, South Carolina. He was a member of the Verona Lodge No. 548 F. & A.M. Masons. His commitment to public service was evident throughout his varied career and his relationships with those less fortunate in his community.

He was a man of many passions, including nature photography, kayaking, cooking, and gardening. Daniel's love for nature was profound; he was happiest when walking along the river, amidst the quiet of the woods or with his children and grandchildren.

He will be missed by his brother, Robert F. Dunkle; his children, Heidi R. Dunkle and David Ramsburg, Tisha D. (Dunkle) Moore, and son-in-law William S. Moore, and his son Aaron Daniel Kirk Dunkle. He was a cherished grandfather to Sarah E. Moore, Sophie G. Lucas, Jackson K. Lucas, Jamison Ramsburg, and Grayson Ramsburg. As well as his children’s mother, Jennifer Gildersleeve Dunkle.
