Dorothy Wygant Obituary

Wygant

Dorothy Jean “Dot”

Age 95, of Winchester, KY, formerly of Oakmont, PA, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020. Dorothy was born in Sewickley, PA, on May 6, 1924, to Charles H. and Ida May (Wachter) Klingensmith. Throughout her school years she spent time between Harmar, PA, and Palmetto, Fl, where her parents owned golf courses. She graduated from Aspinwall High School in 1942, and then went to work for Gulf Research where she read reflecting seismic data. On January 20, 1950 she married Adelbert C. Wygant “Del” and subsequently had 3 children. The family relocated first to Oakmont and then to Plum Borough in 1954. Once her 3 children were attending school, Dorothy went back to work and then back to school herself. She spent the rest of her career in the accounts payable dept. at Shadyside Hospital and also worked for Tots and Tweeds. Dorothy was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Oakmont where she was involved in the Women’s Group, sang soprano in the choir, and retired at the age of 90 from her position as the church’s financial secretary. Following Del’s retirement from the Oakmont Post Office, he and Dorothy outfitted a cargo van and toured the USA, visiting friends, family, and a lot of KOA campgrounds. Throughout her long life, it was important for Dorothy to keep in touch with family and friends. In addition to her love for traveling, she enjoyed singing, reading, swimming, picnicking at Crooked Creek, and watching the Steelers, Pirates, and the Hallmark Channel. She also enjoyed accompanying her family to Kennywood Park, where she would sit and watch them ride, as she would only ride the Ferris wheel and the carousel. Dorothy will be remembered for her kindness and helping others. She would often provide others with transportation to the grocery store, doctor appointments, the airport, or wherever they needed to go. Dorothy is survived by her 3 children, Gloria L. Wendt, Beth J. (Bob) Guers, and Bruce A. (Kathy) Wygant; four grandchildren, Christopher B. (Kelly) Wygant, Melissa J. Wygant, Amanda N. Guers, and Robert H. Guers, Jr.; one great-granchild, Jackson Wygant; her sister Louetta Klingensmith; her sister-in-law, Barbara Sullivan; many nieces and nephews; grand-nieces, grand-nephews; and friends. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Adelbert C. Wygant “Del”; five brothers, Thomas (Mary), Kenneth (Florence), Stanley (Marcy), Robert, and Chester (Betsy) Klingensmith; sister-in-law June (Ralph) Alexander; brother-in-law, Alan Wygant; and one niece Karen Klingensmith. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Youth Group of Oakmont Presbyterian Church, 415 Pennsylvania Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. A celebration of life will be held in Oakmont Presbyterian Church, at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, October 2, 2021.
