Age 84, of Dorseyville, Indiana Twp., passed on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, with her family by her side. Born and raised in Marguerite, PA, she was a coal miner’s daughter and youngest of 10 siblings. Dottie was very proud of her Eastern European heritage and took great strength and comfort in her Catholic faith. She had a musical family and excelled in theater productions at St. Xavier Academy in Westmoreland County where she was also crowned the May Queen. After graduation, she worked as a secretary with PPG Industries in Greensburg, PA where she met the love of her life, Jim Nicholas, from whom she was inseparable. They married in 1963 and moved to Pittsburgh. Dottie enjoyed spending time with her family, particularly at the beach on Topsail Island, NC. Her top priority was raising her three sons, Jim (Roberta) Nicholas, Mike (Mary) Nicholas, and Sean (Jennifer) Nicholas, and was the loving grandmother of Molly, Wyatt, Michela, James, Stuart and Sydney Nicholas. As her boys entered school, she returned to the workforce as a teacher’s aide and ultimately retired as a guidance secretary in the Fox Chapel High School, where she valued each student and developed lifelong friendships. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2003 and beat it, remaining cancer-free for the remainder of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband and siblings.
