Florence “Frosso” (Mamatas) Coutsoumbis

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Florence “Frosso” (Mamatas) Coutsoumbis of Verona, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the age of 92. Beloved mother of Peter & George (Mary) Coutsoumbis and cherished grandmother of Anna (Nicholas) Despotakis & Alex (Samantha) Coutsoumbis. Frosso was preceded in death by her husband Costa Coutsoumbis, in 2010, and his brother, Anthony Coutsoumbis in 2014.

Born in 1932, in Chrisostomos, Ikaria Greece, Frosso was the daughter of George and Athena (Tripodis) Mamatas. Frosso came to America with her mother in 1948 after WWII, looking forward to meeting her father, who had been working at Edgewater Steel in Oakmont, PA since before she was born. In her twenties, she met her future husband, Costa, at the weekly dance at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Oakland, PA. They married in 1957, and together they raised a family filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.

Over the years, Frosso enjoyed being a part of the church choir, the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood. She also loved watching football, especially the Steelers. Most of all, Frosso loved being a mother and grandmother, who enjoyed family gatherings and sharing stories about her childhood in Greece. She will be deeply missed.

The family would like to thank and acknowledge the wonderful, compassionate care given by the staff in the ICU at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, PA. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 16, 2025 from 4-8 PM, with Trisagion at 5:30 PM, at English Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 378 Maryland Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. Additional visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Dormition of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church, 12 Washington Ave., Oakmont, PA from 10 AM until the time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. After the interment, a luncheon will be held in the hall of the church.
