George Hawker

George. What is there to say? George was George.

Born July 11, 1924 he blessed us with 95 years of fun and laughter until his passing on December 21, 2019 at Arden Courts, Jefferson Hills. He was born in Squirrel Hill, lived many years in Penn Hills and the last 25 in Oakmont.

Husband to the late Ruth (Schar) for 63 years. They had fun traveling and found Hawaii to be a favorite destination. Any excuse to go, liquid sunshine was more fun than watching it snow.

Father to Jim, Jean and the late Jo Cowley. He was a great father, teacher and listener. There are many others he took under his wing as well. For a small man he had a great wing span.

He was a pilot in the Air Force and flew a P51. He was THE George M Hawker Co, manufacturer's rep. He sold aluminum castings, fasteners, screw machine parts, whatever you would like to buy. He met Ruth when they were both working at Westinghouse. George was making baby bonnets to sell sewing machines.

He umpired baseball for many years, farm league and little league. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, the American Legion, and was a Free Mason. Ruth and George both volunteered at the Oakmont Presbyterian Home for many years. They were both active members of Oakmont Presbyterian Church. He fixed many a clock over the years and even built a few.

He made an impression on everyone he met, many who new him are with him now. George liked to have fun ...remember Shereba, the office party, the hot tub party or the soul dinner. If you weren’t there perhaps you have heard about the events.

He left us with a prayer for peace. Amen.
