Gerald M. Houston
Age 76, of Oakmont, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen (Kuznicki) Houston, whom he cherished deeply. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Sarah Houston, his brothers John, Edward, David, and Thomas Houston, and his faithful dog, Finn, who was always by his side.
Jerry was a passionate and dedicated special education teacher for 36 years within the Pittsburgh Public Schools. He touched the lives of countless students, offering both patience and care. His love for learning extended beyond the classroom, as he had a deep appreciation for history and trivia, always eager to expand his knowledge and share it with others. An active and vibrant man, Jerry was known for his love of sports. He was an accomplished swimmer, a devoted basketball fan, and enjoyed playing golf. His athleticism and enthusiasm extended to coaching children’s sports for many years, leaving a lasting impact on the young athletes he mentored. Jerry also loved the simple pleasures of life, such as walking his dogs, exploring new cultures, and traveling, which brought him joy and fulfillment. Jerry’s warm heart and sense of adventure shone through in his everyday life. He had a love for dining out, a keen interest in watching QVC, and a passion for experiencing life to the fullest. His laughter, kindness, and dedication to those he loved will be remembered by all who knew him.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 10 AM until the time of the service at 11:30 AM at English Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 378 Maryland Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Jerry's name to Animal Friends or The Humane Society, causes that were close to his heart. Jerry will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched, but his memory and legacy will live on.
