James Casanova Obituary

James A. Casanova

Jimmy (Cas) Casanova passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife on September 12, 2024. Cas was a happy, funny guy who made people laugh without trying. He always had a big smile on his face and was adored by family, friends, cats and all animals. Cas was an avid birdwatcher who mixed a nectar that was irresistible to hummingbirds. He joyfully tended to his hydrangeas every year. Cas grew up in Wilkinsburg, a skinny white kid who was taught how to box, which was great training for breaking the noses of bullies. He served two years in the Air Force receiving an honorable discharge. A hard worker who loved his many jobs, Cas was a sprinkler fitter, union pipe fitter for Local 669, nuclear power plant welder, owner of several businesses and two bars (Cas’s Place & Rivertown Pub), and a cab driver in Key West for 13 years: “the best job I ever loved!” He had a growling voice, teddy bear temperament and twinkling, mischievous blue eyes. Cas was a positive thinker and was just happy to be here. He very much enjoyed living on the Allegheny River and in Florida, especially Key West. He loved Doo Wop music and his favorite song was The Clovers “To Each His Own”. Cas always left places around him better than he found them. He wasn’t afraid to envision something in his mind’s eye and take it through to fruition. He was not afraid of falling and had great follow through. Cas was a loyal member of the Verona Moose and a past long-time member of the Duquesne Canoe Club. Ultimately, he was a loving husband, devoted family member, true friend and a ray of sunshine.
