Nathan Charles Mikels, “Chuck” to those who loved him, passed on February 24, 2025, following a 10-year battle with cancer. He was 68 years old. At the time of his passing, Chuck was living in the Pittsburgh area with his wife where they moved in 2019 to be closer to their daughter.
Chuck was born in February 1957 to the late Russell Nathan and Eleanor Minerva (Brown) Mikels of Canadensis, PA. Chuck is survived by his loving wife Mary Ann (Caprioli), sister Ellen Smith, daughter Michelle and son-in-law Christopher Dove, as well as many other close family, friends and his adoring dog Lucy.
Chuck was a true Northeastern PA native. To go anywhere in the area of Canadensis was to run into someone who was a friend of Chuck’s and who had an anecdote to tell about what a great guy he was. Chuck was a man who took care of his family and loved making people laugh. He was a man who loved a kitty and always had a rescue by his side. Chuck was just getting into his stride after his retirement and move to Pittsburgh when his disease progressed and took him from us too early. Chuck was impossible not to love and his absence will be felt acutely by those lucky enough to know him.
A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held in the Poconos this spring. Details will be shared amongst friends and family closer to the event.
In lieu of gifts or flowers please consider donating to the PAN Foundation or to your local animal rescue agency. The Pan Foundation aided in Chuck’s care for the last year of his life and was an invaluable resource for the Mikels family.
