Robert Larry Whyte
Robert Larry Whyte of Oakmont, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with prostate cancer.
Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era as a Green Beret, paratrooper, and field medic. Following his military service, he began a long career with the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad, where he worked his way from clerk to senior management before retiring.
Bob devoted his life to his family and especially cherished the 54 years he shared with his beloved wife, Dawn. Together they built a life filled with love, faith, laughter, and adventure, traveling throughout the United States and abroad while creating countless memories with family and friends.
As an only child, Julie was the light of Bob’s life. He took great pride in sharing with her his love of history, travel, faith, responsibility, and the values that guided his own life. Through his example, he taught those around him the importance of kindness, integrity, generosity, and devotion to family.
Bob deeply loved his extended family, including his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, treasured pets over the years, his beloved hairless cats, and especially his two grandpuppies, who adored their “Grampy” beyond measure.
Bob was a pillar of Oakmont United Methodist Church, dedicating much of his life to serving his church family through leadership, volunteer work, teaching, fellowship events, and quiet acts of generosity behind the scenes.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dawn (Bacon) Whyte; his daughter, Julie (Whyte) Trenn, widow of the late Kevin Trenn; his brother, David Whyte and his wife, Pat; his sister, Karen (Whyte) Gallisath and her husband, Dave; sister-in-law Gail (Bacon) Williams; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and grandpuppies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert N. Whyte and Dolores (Wood) Whyte; his sister, Linda (Whyte) Junk; his brother, Kevin Whyte; and his niece, Amy Horak.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM at English Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 378 Maryland Avenue Oakmont, PA 15139.
