Ronald Cash Asbury

Ronald Cash Asbury age 90, passed away peacefully, June 13, 2026. Ron was the loving husband of his late wife Jan; loving father of Aaron (Lynn) and Heath (Lisa) Asbury; cherished brother of Dolena Ray and Dorothea Asbury; and adoring grandfather of Benjamin, Christopher, Paige, and Delaney.

Ron earned a certificate from the George Heid School of Broadcasting in 1958. He served in the Navy from 1958 to 1961. For the next 40 years, he worked as a radio announcer/broadcaster for various radio stations in the Pittsburgh area, including WHJB, WJAS, KQV, and WJOI where he gained a loyal following of listeners. He ended his career at the University of Pittsburgh where he worked for 15 years as the General Manager of WPTS Radio until his retirement in 2001. Ron was an incredibly compassionate person and loved his family above all else. Ron was simply the most loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather any of us could have wished for.  He and Jan loved outdoor activities from biking and kayaking to taking long hikes and walks in the woods and trails near their homes in Pittsburgh and Portland, Oregon. They loved their secluded 12-acre property in Indiana Township, affectionately named Schattental, where they raised their boys and welcomed countless visits from their grandchildren. Ron had a multitude of interests including woodworking, bird watching, writing, electronics, and music. He was a curious person and an avid lifelong learner. He earned dual degrees in History and Religious Studies from the University of Pittsburgh in 1997, at the age of 61. Ron and Jan’s cherished vacation spot was the beautiful barrier island of Ocracoke, NC which he and Jan first visited in 1968. Over the years, four generations of Asbury’s created lasting memories there.

Later this summer, the family plans to visit Ocracoke in honor of Ron’s life and the legacy that he left. The family wishes to thank the caring staff of the Harmony Square Memory unit at Harmony at Harts Run as well as the nurses and care givers of Monarch Hospice for their compassion, comfort, and exceptional care.
