Sara M Brown Age 96 of Oakmont, passed on January 24, 2016. She was born in Monesson, the daughter of the late Charles J. and Emma (French) Brown. Sara was a graduate of Charleroi High School and became an accomplished businesswoman. She worked in wholesale food distribution for 44 years, most of those years at Fox Grocery in Belle Vernon. After retirement she enjoyed many annual reunions with the Fox Grocery women retirees. Sara was a lifelong learner and took classes on many topics including painting, pottery, astronomy, and writing. She was an adventurous world traveler who wanted to learn about and experience first hand many different cultures and wonders of nature. Her travels on every continent included trips to the Khyber Pass on the Silk Road, China, Australia, Macchu Picchu, Antarctica, Galapagos, Russia, Tanzania, Egypt, Alaska, Western and Eastern Europe, and across the United States. Sara followed the trail of Lewis and Clark and went on safari in Africa. She loved being out in nature, especially hiking to see birds and wildflowers in the spring throughout Pennsylvania. A much beloved Aunt Sally and great aunt and friend, she shared her sense of fun and adventure with her family and friends She was an inspiration to all. In addition to her parents Sara was predeceased by siblings Charles J. Brown, Beverly B. Souply, and Elsie J. Rippel, and great nephew Eric Rippel. She is survived by nephews Chuck and Dick Brown, Gary, Mark, and Bruce Souply, Larry, Dean, and Patty Rippel, and nieces and great nephews and nieces. She wished to thank Larry, Mary Pat. Elena, and Julia for their care of her in her final years, and Patty for her special visits. The family is grateful for the compassionate care she received from the staff at Presbyterian Senior Care Westminster Place and The Willows. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Western PA Conservancy or the National Aviary of Pittsburgh. A Memorial Luncheon will be held instead of a viewing in Oakmont on Saturday, January 30th from 12:00 to 2:00 at Hoffstot's Cafe, 533 Allegheny Ave, Oakmont, PA.
