William R. Coates of Oakmont passed away at the age of 93 on the morning of Sunday, December 11th, 2022. Loving father of Irene (Tim) Donnelly, the late Linda (Wally) Salsgiver, Kim (Gary) Schnell and Lisa Coates Klavoral; step-father to Karen Dixon and Kathy (Bear) Flaherty. Grandfather of the late Tony Buzzelli, Jason (Lori) Salsgiver, Nicole Buzzelli, Danielle (Dan) Willis, Ryan (Amber) Donnelly, Ashley (Tom Maguire) Donnelly; great-grandfather to 11; brother of Kay Joyce, Judy McGuire, Alice Whiteman, Sue Miller and John (Doris) Coates. He will be sadly missed by his companion Marilyn Wetmore. He was preceded in death by wife Carol (Cookie) Coates and brother Robert (Joann) Coates. Bill served in the U.S. Army as a corporal from 1948-51. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1956 and worked as a Metallurgic Engineer for U.S. Steel. He was an active member of the Oakmont Historical Society, a docent at the Kerr Museum, member of the Lions Club, and active with The Elks, Eagles, and Moose lodges. Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 from 4-8 pm.. at English Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 378 Maryland Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 11 a.m. in Oakmont Presbyterian Church, 415 Pennsylvania Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. A luncheon will be held at Oakmont Presbyterian Church after the service. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Bill’s name to the Kerr Memorial Museum at 402 Delaware Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139 or the Lions Club at PO Box 335, Oakmont, PA 15139.
